«2. Field work» is a joint project by Lisa Kelly and Singaporean artist Dennis Tan. Following on from their exhibition «1. The Lively Plane» at The Institute for Contemporary Art, Newtown [February 2008], part 2 will comprise a developing suite of place-responsive works and actions drawing upon the surrounding field of the Chrissie Cotter gallery including parks and vacant land, sports grounds and clubs.

Taking starting points from phenomena such as landscaping, shortcuts, people traffic and the original nature of the rooms as a community hall, the project seeks to shift the space from one of presentation to continuous production and will be open and in progress for its duration. Using modes of drawing, sculpture, installation, documentation and conversation, Tan and Kelly are interested to build an unfolding project based on observation and cooperation.

«2. Field work» is a companion project to Dennis Tan’s one month residency at the Caretaker’s Cottage, Petersham Town Hall in the Marrickville Artist Residency Program.
